Day 1: Sydney to Katoomba, 110 kms 1.5 hr drive
Collect your rental car today and head west via the M4 & Great Western Highway. Todays drive can be just as spectacular as the destination with misty blue hues, vast canyons, waterfalls and quaint villages such as Leura with its curio shops and tea houses. Echo Point, Katoomba offers breathtaking views of the Three Sisters and is the starting point for numerous bush walks. Consider an exhilarating ride to the valley floor aboard the Scenic Railway or take the Skyway Cable car for incredible waterfall & valley views. We also recommend the Edge Maxivision Giant Screen Cinema with its 1 hour documentary on the Blue Mountains.

Day 2: Katoomba – Jenolan Caves, Lithgow, Sydney, 290 kms 4.5 hrs drive
Make today’s first stop at Govett’s Leap Lookout, 20 kms northwest of Katoomba at Blackheath. From here it is a further 60 kms to world famous Jenolan Caves. There are daily guided tours of these exquisite limestone caves. Return to Sydney via Lithgow, maybe take time out to ride the Zig Zag railway, a marvel of railway engineering. The return drive follows the scenic Bell’s Line of Road, through eucalypt forests and apple orchards.

Day 1: Sydney to Singleton 205 kms, 2.5 hours drive
Collect your rental car and head northwest to Cessnock regarded the gateway to the Hunter Valley wine country with over 80 wineries to visit by car, mountain bike, horse drawn coach or even consider exploring the wineries by Harley Davidson.
Overnight: Option 1: A Best Western Hotel at Singleton. Option 2: Hunter Valley Resort, Pokolbin.

Day 2: Singleton, Port Stephens, Sydney, 330 kms, 4 hours drive
After a leisurely start to the day there is time to explore more vineyards as you drive east to Port Stephens, a popular seaside resort famous for its’ white beaches, crystal-clear water, fresh seafood and tropical climate plus excellent fishing, dolphin watching, golf and bushwalking. Time permitting, we encourage you to spend a night here otherwise it is time to head south following the picturesque coastline via Lake Macquarie and the Hawkesbury River back to Sydney.

Have the freedom of a rental car to explore this very scenic coastal region of New South Wales and South-East Queensland. The small towns, hidden bays and tranquil spots will continually surprise and delight the independent spirit.

Day1: Sydney to Port Stephens, 225 kms, 3 hrs 30 mins drive
Follow the Pacific highway north, driving through Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and over the mighty Hawkesbury River. A wonderful series of lakes and waterways exists in this part on New South Wales. Newcastle is a city known for its beautiful beaches and parks while Port Stephens, 45 mins north, is well known for dolphin excursions. Overnight: Op1: Madison Motor Inn - Newcastle. Opt 2: Peppers Anchorage-Port Stephens.

Day 2: Port Stephens to Byron Bay, 375 kms, 5 hrs drive
Just north is beautiful Myall Lakes National Park and the twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry. Port Macquarie is a popular beach resort town. Ballina is a bustling town on the mouth of the Richmond River with excellent beaches. The coastal community of Byron Bay is famous for its relaxed lifestyle, excellent beaches and plenty of arts and crafts. Overnight: Opt 1: Ballina Island Motor Inn-Ballina. Opt 2: Peppers Casuarina Lodge - Byron Bay.

Day 3: Byron Bay to Gold Coast, 107 kms, 1 hr drive
Start your day with a leisurely stroll along the beach or simply sit and watch the superb scenery before heading north following the coastal route past banana, avocado and sugarcane plantations to the border towns of Tweed Heads and Coolangatta and on to the Gold Coast. Overnight: Opt 1: Fifth Ave Motel - Gold Coast. Opt 2: Australis Sovereign 1 Bedroom Apt - Gold Coast.

Day 4: Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is often referred to as ‘The Playground of Australia’, with 300 days of sunshine, miles of continuous surf beaches and excellent theme parks, this is no idle boast. For those who have had enough sun, surf & sand, there is always the scenic drive through World Heritage Listed rainforests in the Gold Coast hinterland. Day 5: Gold Coast to Brisbane, 100 kms, 1½ hr drive
If you hit the beaches yesterday, try the green of the hinterland today, you won’t be disappointed. There are plenty of beautiful, short bush walks in Lamington National Park and Mt Tamborine. Or maybe visit one of the theme parks enroute to Brisbane. Overnight: Own arrangements.
